North Idaho STEM Constitution
1) General Requirements Applied to all Offices:
- Student Council meetings will be every other month.
[SEE Amendment 2] - 2 year term limit per office.
- 51% of elected officials reaches quorum, unless stated otherwise.
- Must maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA per semester to be elected and to stay in office.
[SEE Amendment 1] - If an elected official receives 2 pink slips in one school year they will be automatically removed from office.
- Suspension of an elected official results in automatic removal from office.
2) President:
- Schedule meetings in the Student Council.
- Runs School Council meetings.
- Act as the time keeper for all meetings.
- Enforce rules of the constitution.
- Tie breaker when votes are divided evenly.
- Makes things go smoothly.
- Has enumerated powers.
- There is only one President.
3) Vice President:
- Vice President elections will run separately from the Presidential election.
- Cannot refuse presidency if president is removed from office.
- Will fill in for the President in his roles and responsibilities if the President is not present.
- There is only one Vice President.
4) Secretary:
- Debrief on minutes every meeting.
- Puts the minutes of the meetings on the website.
- Will record info and review the last meeting at the start of every meeting.
- Works with the historian to keep an archive.
- There is only one Secretary.
5) Historian:
- Keeps records of what goes on at school. [NOTE: According to Amendment 7, the Historian’s responsibilities include - "Will maintain an ongoing library of photos, videos, and any other records of daily events, special occasions and celebrations during the year the Historian serves at STEM.”]
- Responsible for taking photos and recording projects.
- Assists in the making of the year book (works with the Treasurer to make it).
- Works with the Secretary.
- There is only one Historian.
6) Treasurer:
- Organize fundraisers (works with the front office).
- Event coordinator (works with the front office).
- Debrief the Student Government's budget at each meeting.
- Responsible for completion of the yearbook (works with the Historian to complete this).
- All events and/or activities are subject to veto by the School Administration.
- There is only one Treasurer
7) Class Representatives:
- Runner ups in previous Student Government Office elections remain eligible to be appointed for this position.
- Responsible for appointing new people to empty government spots after consulting with peers.
- Elected by peers in their respective grades.
- One will be elected from each grade (7th – 12th grade).
8) Amendment Process:
- A 3/4 approval of the Student Council (including Class Representatives) is needed for passing any amendments to the Student Government Constitution. [NOTE: According to Amendment 8 the approval ratio has been changed to 2/3]
- Student Council members will vote on any amendments the following meeting (the next meeting after the announcement).
- All members of the Student Council must vote on amendments, no one may abstain.
- All amendments are subject to veto by the School Administration.
9) Ratification
The Ratification of the Conventions of the Ninth Grade, shall be sufficient for the Establishment of this Constitution between the Students so ratifying the Same. Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the Students present the Twenty-Second Day of January in the Year of our Lord two thousand and fifteen. Amendments to the Student Constitution
- If an elected official's GPA drops below the required 3.0 requirement then they have the current quarter to bring it up. If they are within three weeks of the end of that quarter, then they have until the end of the next quarter to raise their GPA.

- The entirety of the student government will meet the first Monday of every month. The President may call on additional meetings if necessary. [NOTE: According to Amendment 6 the date/time of meetings will now be determined annually according to the SOPM.]

- If an officer becomes permanently absent from their position, the Student Council may vote on amendments and function as normal.

- The Student Government implies we rule the student body therefore we will now be called the Student Leadership Council which means we represent students, not rule them.

The SLC will maintain a Standard Operating Procedure Manual [SOPM] for basic procedural functions which do not need to be included in the Constitution. Details included in the SOPM will be created and approved at the beginning of every SLC administration in September. Decisions as to which details belong in the SOPM versus the Constitution will be discussed and approved by Administrative Advisor. Any and all content changes and/or additions within the SOPM are subject to School Administration approval/veto.

In order to run for the role of School President, you must apply to both of the following requirements below
1). All students wishing to run for the role of Student Leadership Council President must be going into their sophomore, junior, or senior year.
2). To run for the Student Leadership Council role of President you must have completed two full semesters at North Idaho STEM Charter Academy. These semesters do not have to be consecutive.

- Any officer of the SLC who does not put in their required time at STEM or at STEM functions as outlined in the SLC Constitution will have until the end of the current quarter to begin putting in the required time at STEM or at STEM functions, otherwise said officer of the SLC will be removed from office. If any officer of the SLC is removed from office in the aforementioned fashion, the runner up(s) of the previous years' election for the voided position will be asked to take office in order of the popular vote. In the event that none of said runner up(s) accept the voided position, then a secondary election will be held to fill said voided position.

- In the instance that the officers of the SLC are not present for an event, the chain of command will continue as such: If the president is not present, then the vice president will be in charge of said event, then the treasurer, historian, and secretary, respectively. If none of these officers are present, then the chain of command will go to the class representatives descending in grade order.

In order to maintain a non-political, efficient group of members of the SLC, there will no longer be elections. Instead, an appointment process will be developed.
The current requirements for officers will still be maintained. The process will be spelled out in a separate procedure document, upon approval of the SLC members and the Administration.
Class representatives will remain the only position to be elected. They will be chosen by their respective classes and put forward to the SLC by the end of the year.
